oneyellowfinch.com/6 – Water is an essential human need, yet 1 in 10 people do not have access to clean water. In this episode, learn with me how we can change that. I’m donating my 31st birthday this year to try to raise $930 so that 31 people can drink clean water for the first time in their lives. Donate Here: my.charitywater.org/emily-wagner/making-hope-for-31-people-with-emily
I have enough stuff, plenty of stuff, actually TOO much stuff! And I don’t need any more things. (And if you were already contemplating buying me a birthday present, or even buying me a birthday card for $3.10; please reconsider. Please give whatever you would have spent on providing the means for Charity: Water to change someone’s life forever. And if you weren’t thinking about giving me a gift, great! I don’t need one, but please give the gift of water to somebody else that you don’t even know, maybe a mother who wants to give health and hope to her children, a grandfather who has never drunk clean water in his life. I hope you’ll join me in this effort, whether you have 31 cents to give, or $31 dollars, or more, every bit will help, and 100% of your donation will go directly to a water project that will give clean water to people in desperate need. I hope my birthday will make it possible for 31 people to have many more decades of birthdays to come.
Please share this. Share it with even just one person, or better yet, with everyone you know! Let’s spread the word and make some hope!
P.S. I’m so sorry about the poor sound quality of my podcast recordings. I’m doing these on the fly, whenever I can get a spare moment alone (which isn’t often with a 5 year old and a 10 month old with me full-time). My oldest son starts school in 2 weeks, so the rhythm of our life is about to change drastically! And hopefully, so will the quality of the technical aspects of the podcast!
Water is the most crucial life sustaining resource, yet how many of us just take it for granted? In this episode, we discuss what happened to the people of Flint, Michigan, and how you and I can be prepared for such an event. We review some very easy options to ensure that you and your family have access to clean water no matter what.
I live in the Detroit Metro Area in Michigan (USA), the water crisis of Flint, Michigan literally hits close to home (an hour away from my home in fact). The 2 short videos and the articles below will give you a good overview of what happened in Flint, and what is still going on. Thousands of Flint citizens have been poisoned. Many children especially have suffered bone and brain damage from lead poisoning.
“Berkey water filters provide the ultimate in waterborne contamination removal. They are used worldwide to set the international standard for water filters used in clean or hostile filtration environments. Owning a Berkey Water Filter gives you the ability to utilize almost any outside natural water source and transform it into the best tasting, purest drinking water possible. All while using a natural method without the use of chemicals or complicated processes.”
“The Berkey water filter system is so powerful it is classified as a purifier. This classification shows that we far exceed the abilities of the standard water filter. The portable Berkey can be used to filter non-potable or unhealthy water in situations where electricity and pressure are not available. For normal everyday water from your faucet or for challenging environments like wells, rivers, and lakes, Berkey is the most flexible and adaptable filtering system available. Berkey water costs just 1.7 cents per gallon to produce. The cleanable Black Berkey replacement filters provide an economical, reliable and powerful long-term solution to poor water quality issues that cannot be equaled. Our most popular model, the Big Berkey has a long-standing reputation for quality and service. This reputation is the reason we are trusted around the world by numerous international relief organizations to provide clean emergency drinking water to workers and citizens during times of crisis or natural disaster.”
The Berkey Water Filter System is Revolutionary
“Through diligent testing and research, we have proven that Berkey water filters remove viruses to purification standards, pathogenic bacteria, cysts and parasites to non-detectable levels, and harmful or unwanted chemicals to below detectable levels. Until these test results were made public, words like non-detectable were seldom if ever used to describe the abilities of a water filter to remove harmful pollutants. The filters in the Berkey system not only took the industry by storm with these unheard of benefits but also added the ability to reduce toxic heavy metals such as lead and mercury without removing the beneficial and nutritional minerals needed to support a healthy body and mind. Review and compare the ability of the unique Berkey Water Filter to Brita, Aquasana, Pur, Katadyn or bottled water and see for yourself what we have to offer and why we dominate the portable water filter industry.”
“This advanced bottle removes up to 99.99 percent of pollutants and contaminants found in drinking water. Produces up to 100 gallons of filtered water. Kit contains one 28-ounce water bottle and two filters. Bottle includes an insulator sleeve and clip.” (Credit: https://store.lds.org/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product3_715839595_10557_3074457345616706370_-1__196989)
It was an honor to talk with Ariel and David Witt for today’s podcast episode. They share their experience when Dave graduated from Chiropractic school, they moved their family out to Albuquerque, New Mexico (USA) for Dave to work under an experienced chiropractor and then take over his practice. Ariel was 7 months pregnant with their second son, and they were loving Albuquerque and looking forward to spending decades there. Then they had the rug completely pulled out from under them when Dave was unexpectedly fired. This was not part of their plan. They were unexpectedly left vulnerable and scared at a major crossroads. Listen to this episode to find out how they made the massive decision to pick their favorite spot on the map, move there and start their own business from nothing. You will hear how they have struggled and toiled to create the beautiful and successful chiropractic practice and life they have now in Fort Collins, Colorado (USA). They have pooled all their talents and used them well. Dave and Ariel haven’t only been thinking of themselves along their challenging journey, but they’ve been reaching out to people in need, lifting them up and giving them hope. They have now had 2 annual business campaigns which have resulted in raising thousands of dollars to donate to refugees in need. The Witt family has found great satisfaction in caring for others, and they now enjoy the hope and peace they have worked so hard to cultivate. They have truly learned to make lemonade from the lemons life has dealt them.
If you live near Fort Collins, I would highly recommend you make a visit to Sunstone Health Associates; I sure wish I could!
And even if you don’t live in Fort Collins, CO, still check out awesome information about wellness on their blog! https://www.sunstonecare.com/blog/ Dr. Witt and Noel Jensen LAc, CCWFN (Ariel’s Dad) and other Sunstone Health Associates have written some great articles!
*I’m still working through some technical difficulties at the moment, so please forgive the fuzzy background noise in this episode! I’m learning about how to achieve good sound quality with the equipment and location I have to work with.*
My husband and I were married in 2007. We thought we were pretty frugal, and tried to be wise with the very little money we had. And, in comparison to some people, we were. But we had a hard time relating to each other when it came to money. We weren’t sure what goals were best, and we often wondered where all the money went when we were trying to be thrifty and use self restraint.
It changed our lives forever. We finally understood one another’s feelings about money, and we had a plan! Dave Ramsey’s Baby Steps taught us what to focus on when, and channel all our resources to each Baby Step so that we weren’t scattering all our energy and money on every possible good idea at once.
Baby Step 1: $1,000 cash in a beginner emergency fund
Baby Step 2: Use the debt snowball to pay off all your debt but the house
Baby Step 3: A fully funded emergency fund of 3 to 6 months of expenses
Baby Step 4: Invest 15% of your household income into retirement
Baby Step 5: Start saving for college
Baby Step 6: Pay off your home early
Baby Step 7: Build wealth and give generously
Right now we are on Baby Step 2 – Pay off all debts (except the house). The key to staying on track with our goals and paying off our debt, at least for us, has been keeping a budget! In this episode of the Making Hope podcast, I talk about how we budget and give some tips to getting started!
Regan “Dee” (Rindlisbacher) is a budding singer/songwriter. Her song, “Good to Be Alive” is the current theme song of the Making Hope podcast. In the song, her beautiful voice expresses gratitude and hope, and she affirms that indeed, it’s good to be alive. In our conversation, I get to know Regan better, and she share some of her life experiences in creating hope for herself and for other people through music.
Join me for my first podcast interview for Making Hope! It was delightful to chat with Miranda Livingston about simple and easy ways individuals can do something to help refugees from wherever they are. She shares some of her own experiences helping refugees as well as how she teaches and includes her children and friends in this effort.
TAL Episode 592is very informative about what its like being a refugee, including the process they have to go through to relocate to a more permanent home. TAL Episode 609breaks down the President’s travel ban back in January 2017 pretty comprehensively.
Exodus: A PBS Frontline Series Documentary that follows the stories of several refugee individuals and families.
UNHCR: The UN Refugee Agency
